TECA-MAR — Mozambique Blue Economy

TECA Mercados Azuis e Resilientes

APPLY NOW

Mozambique has 2,700 kilometers of coastline, one of Africa’s largest exclusive economic zones, and communities whose livelihoods have depended on the sea for generations. The blue economy opportunity is real, but the ventures, capital, and support systems needed to unlock it are still taking shape. TECA is here to change that.

In partnership with FSD Africa, GIZ, and IdeiaLab, BFA Global is launching TECA-MAR, Mozambique’s first-of-its-kind blue economy market-building program, to activate early-stage talent, connect entrepreneurs to investors and ecosystem support, and build the pipeline for a full TECA  wave in early 2027.

What’s happening

Two days of programming in Maputo, 4–5 August 2026

TECAthon Day — 4 August

A full-day venture-building sprint. Selected entrepreneurs work in teams to identify real problems in Mozambique’s blue economy, develop early ideas, and present to investors and judges.

Ecosystem Day — 5 August

A  blue economy stakeholder workshop, an early-stage finance program led by FSD Africa, and an evening social connecting entrepreneurs with investors and ecosystem actors.

Who should apply

You don’t need a background in the blue economy. You don’t need a finished idea. You need to be a driven, curious entrepreneur,  someone who is passionate about solving environmental and climate problems and ready to direct that energy toward one of the most exciting and underserved opportunity spaces in Mozambique.

We actively welcome founders from adjacent sectors, including:

  • Fisheries, aquaculture, and food value chains
  • Coastal and nature-based tourism
  • Waste, environmental services, and climate resilience
  • Logistics and cold chain
  • Marine science and research
  • Digital tools and fintech for coastal communities

What you’re applying for

Applying to TECA-MAR puts you in the pipeline for two things:

Rolling consideration for TECA investment and support

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis as the TECA-MAR program develops. Promising ventures will be considered for future investment, venture-building support, and access to the TECA network.

An invitation to the TECAthon

Standout applicants will be invited to join the in-person TECAthon in Maputo on 4 August 2026,  a full-day venture-building sprint with investors, mentors, and prizes. Applications for the TECAthon close on 26 July 2026.
