For investors, the COVID-19 pandemic forced a remote approach to the due diligence process. As a result, investors have fewer opportunities to gather some of the valuable intel that typically comes from face to face interactions and on the ground knowledge. Catalyst Fund gathered insights from our Circle of 85+ investors globally – with particular contributions from Ashley Lewis of Accion Venture Lab, Johan Bosini of Quona Capial and Efayomi Carr of Flourish Ventures– on lessons learned and best practices they’ve employed to continue evaluating startups successfully while shifting to a remote environment.

We also highlight three key areas of opportunity in the fintech space that will be critical to an inclusive economic recovery — insurtech, savings and investments and fintech for gig-workers — and illustrate what investors should look for when evaluating startups in these verticals.
