Catalyst Fund Project Launch Video

“Innovation is increasingly important…some of the solutions that are going to solve worldwide problems are emerging from the Global South” – Amolo Ng’Weno, CEO, BFA Global

In January 2020, Catalyst Fund, managed by BFA Global and fiscally sponsored by Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors (RPA), announced a new £12 million (US$15 million) commitment from UK aid and JPMorgan Chase & Co. to advance financial inclusion for underserved people across the world. Over the next three years, the inclusive fintech accelerator will support the growth of 30 additional startups across five key emerging markets for fintech innovation: Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, India, and Mexico.

With over 300 attendees, launch of the startup accelerator garnered audience from across the UK fintech community of startups, investors, market enablers, and enthusiasts. Catalyst Fund also announced its latest cohort of fintech startups that join the league of 25 other inclusive fintech companies from around the world.

Our keynote speaker, Ismail Ahmed, CEO of WorldRemit, shared his own startup story and addressed the gathering marking the significance of innovation in financial services that has happened in the last decade or so. The room also heard pitches from our latest cohort explaining their solutions and how they are tackling some of the most pressing issues in their respective countries.

Watch this video to learn more about our work, our plans over the next three years, and catch glimpses from our launch in London.

We thank the City of London Corporation for hosting us at the event space, the Department for International Trade for supporting the event, and our program partners, UK aid and JPMorgan Chase & Co., for supporting the program for the next three years.
