The Nawirika Foundation primarily empowers women entrepreneurs in low-income Kenyan communities, helping them enhance the quality of early childhood care and education services they provide. This work is essential in areas where affordable, quality childcare is limited, enabling women to pursue entrepreneurship while ensuring children receive proper care and education.

The Nawirika Foundation explored sustainable business models for low-cost childcare in the nano stage. This involved in-depth research into the economics of operating informal childcare microbusinesses, identifying key factors contributing to their commercial viability. The study found that optimizing the number of children served, minimizing costs, and offering add-on services were crucial for sustainability. However, a trade-off exists between maintaining affordability for low-income families and achieving financial viability for the childcare provider. The insights gained from this research will inform future efforts to create more sustainable and scalable childcare services in low-income communities.
