Javier is the Head of Venture Building for Catalyst Fund at BFA Global, where he oversees and manages Catalyst Fund engagements. His responsibilities include supporting other venture builders in their work with startups as well as working directly with founders himself. Since its inception, Javier has worked with and supported more than 30 Catalyst Fund startups. He specializes in software development, product management and design, customer experience, and data analytics. At BFA Global, he has also collaborated with growth enterprises in the PayGo Energy and MSME sectors through the FIBR program, helping design digital financial services that leverage relationships, channels, and data to offer flexible credit solutions to low-income populations.
Currently, Javier works as Head of Venture Building for Catalyst Fund 3.0, coordinating venture-building support for startups across the portfolio. Previously, he was a Portfolio Engagement Manager for Catalyst Fund 2.0, where he supported fintech startups across emerging markets to achieve product-market fit. He has also served as a Product Manager and Technology Specialist on several BFA Global programs, including the Inclusive Digital Commerce Accelerator in Ghana and Financial Health projects in Mexico. Prior to joining BFA Global, Javier worked for over six years building technology solutions for micro-retailers in Mexico and Colombia at VirtualMarket and Frogtek.
His areas of expertise include venture building, product management, data science, technology, customer experience, inclusive fintech, and digital financial services. He holds an MSc in Telecom Engineering from the University of Zaragoza, Spain, and completed his Master’s thesis at Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden. He speaks Spanish (native) and English (proficient).
